Sugar Fest
2014 Sugar Fest

The West Baton Rouge Museum will hold its 19th annual "SugarFest,” a sweet celebration of the sugar cane harvest, on Sunday, October 5th, 2014 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Festival admission is free. This unique old fashioned festival, named a Southeast Tourism Society Top Twenty Event two years in a row, features fun family-oriented activities, food, and music with a "refined” twist.

Learn about our unique plantation history while touring the museum grounds. See historic craft demonstrations, watch a mule driven cane grinder in action, chew on fresh sugar cane samples, and let the kids take part in historic hands - on activities. Step inside to view sugar related exhibitions. Then, relax on the grounds to the sweet sounds of live musical performances while indulging in plantation style cooking and sugary treats. There’s even a sweets contest with celebrity judges. Visitors can enjoy a mule-pulled wagon ride and a mini train ride.

Musicians include the famous Storyville Stompers from New Orleans, singer and blues harmonica master Kenny Neal, Cajun music troupe Coobie Joe, the Fabulous Bagasse Boyz playing not your daddy’s blue grass, the Cane Grinders, the Lagniappe Dulcimer Society, performing artist Judy Whitney Davis singing spirituals and more.

Come see us SUGAR! The West Baton Rouge Museum is located at 845 N. Jefferson Avenue in Port Allen, Louisiana only minutes from downtown Baton Rouge. For more information, call (225) 336-2422 ext. 15 or e-mail us.
